A police constable was injured during Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar’s Nawada, leading to a case being registered against the driver of his SUV. The incident took place on August 19 when the constable fell in front of the convoy vehicle and suffered a leg fracture.
According to officials, the injured policeman, Mahesh Kumar, was part of the security detail for the march. Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman clarified that the constable tripped and the vehicle “barely brushed against his feet.” Doctors at a local hospital later confirmed that he had sustained a fracture.
A video of the accident circulated widely, showing the officer limping after being pulled free. Rahul Gandhi was also seen assisting at the spot, handing over water and checking on the injured policeman.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised the Congress over the episode, alleging that the constable was “crushed” and mocking the opposition march as “Crush Janta Yatra.” Police have begun further investigation while the driver’s identity has not yet been disclosed.
